Revit Architecture 2011 Error when hovering cursor over Modify Ribbon Panel

Source: Autodesk Technical Support

Issue:
when hovering the cursor over some commands in the modify ribbon panel the following error message pops up.

Error message:
C:\Windows\System32\WMADMOD.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

System:
win 7 64 6GB RAM

Scope:
single computer
random but often, associated with move copy commands

Research:
The WMADMOD.DLL file is a Windows file related to audio decoding for Windows Media Player. I am not sure why the help pop up for certain tools would trigger this error. However, from the message I would think that there is an issue with the DLL or Media Player that is not directly related to Revit.
See if they can open and use Windows Media Player for opening and playing audio files.

confirmed resolved by customer:
Somehow either by 3rd party software, a video or whatever, had made changes to and moved this file to another location. By restoring this file to its original state and location resolved this issue with Revit.

Reactivating an expired Subscription Home Use license

Published date: 2010-Sep-08
ID: TS13845691

Applies to:
AutoCAD® 2011
AutoCAD® 2010
AutoCAD® 2009
AutoCAD® 2008
AutoCAD® 2007
AutoCAD LT® 2011
AutoCAD LT® 2010
AutoCAD LT® 2009
AutoCAD LT® 2008
AutoCAD LT® 2007

Issue
Your Subscription Home Use License has expired and you would like to know how to reauthorize it to continue working in the product.

Solution
The reauthorization process requires completing a new Subscription Home Use License Agreement and submitting it to www.autodesk.com/register for approval.  If approved, the Home Use License will be extended for another term.  The serial number will remain the same, however the product will need to be reactivated on the client machine.
To reactivate the product, you will need to contact Product Support to obtain the name and location of the license .DAT file corresponding to the product you want to reactivate.

Once you receive the file name, proceed as follows:
Locate and delete the .DAT file name provided by Product Support.
Note: Starting with 2010, this will be a .DATA file and deleting this file will delete all existing activations for 2010 products or later.
Launch the product
Follow the standard activation process
The product will now be reactivated for a new period.

Force Return of Borrowed Network License

Source:
Autodesk Technical Support

Issue:
Network license was borrowed, the computer that was issued the license had the hard drive crash, and now the license needs to be returned early. The question is how to force LMTOOLS, Flexnet license manager to return the license to the pool.

Resolution:
There is no way to force the return of a borrowed license if the client machine is dead.

Workarounds:

Option 1:
Per TS1053290, the customer can wait out the borrow period for the license to expire. At this point the license will be automatically returned to the license manager.

Option 2:
They can rebuild a computer with the exact same name as the dead laptop (case is important, check Server Status in LMTOOLS to confirm the exact case). Then log in as the same user who borrowed the license (again, case is important). Borrow the license again and return it.

Options 3:
a) In the case your license is on subscription, and you have not updated your license on the server, updating your license may resolve this.  For example, you have 2011 on your current server license, getting a new 2012 license and updating LMTOOLS with it.

b) In the case that the product borrowed is a serial number that can be merged with another serial number, merging the borrowed serial number into the other serial number, and updating your license may resolve this issue.

Option 4: Autodesks discretion / per case basis
They can install AutoCAD as standalone on a machine OR configure a second license manager machine and I can issue a temporary activation or license file. I will need to know their best estimate on how long the license was borrowed for along with the serial number and request code (if standalone) or servername and MAC address (if another license manager).
If the license was borrowed for a long time I recommend the customer consider implementing an options file which will reduce the maximum borrow period (see TS1055247). If users are consistently needing to borrow licenses for extended time periods (months) I recommend using a standalone license on these machines.

If you have a license showing as being issued (not borrowed) on the network but isn’t.
