Land Desktop Companion 2009 w/ Raster Design 2009 Deployment on 64 bit OS

Solution from Autodesk Technical Support:

Separate 64-bit and 32-bit deployments need to be made so that the installer can detect the operating system type and complete an install.

For AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009, which is only available as a 32-bit application, this means they need to choose the 64-bit radio button and create a 64-bit deployment. If they have a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems they will need both a 32-bit and a 64-bit deployment. It is common for example to name the Deployment LDC2009-32 for 32-bit and LDC2009-64 for 64-bit or some similar naming convention designating the bit type. Both deployments are required even though the end result is a 32-bit version of AutoCAD on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

The same is true for AutoCAD Raster Design yet a little more complicated as three deployments should be made for a mixed environment that includes AutoCAD Map 3D 2009, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009, AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009:

  • For 32-bit AutoCAD Raster Design on 32-bit versions of AutoCAD on 32-bit operating systems make a 32-bit deployment.
  • For 64-bit AutoCAD Raster Design on 64-bit versions of AutoCAD on 64-bit operating systems make a 64-bit deployment.
  • For 32-bit AutoCAD Raster Design on 32-bit versions of AutoCAD (AutoCAD Map 3D 2009, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009, AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009) on 64-bit operating systems make a special 32-bit deployment. When I do this I name this deployment something like “ARD2009for32bitACADon64bitOS” to distinguish it from ARD2009-32 and ARD2009-64, for example. There is a technical solution which requires the modification of the Setup.ini to create this special deployment. The URL is http://support.autodesk.com/getdoc.asp?id=TS1083246.

It is important to note that with 64-bit operating systems AutoCAD Raster Design 2009 cannot be installed as both 32-bit and 64-bit. Therefore the customer will need to choose which version of AutoCAD they install it on if they are installing mixed versions of AutoCAD. For example on a with AutoCAD 2009 (64-bit) and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 (32-bit) both installed on the same computer customers usually install the 32-bit version of AutoCAD Raster Design 2009 so that they have raster imagery functionality with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.

That all said when Installing AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009 and AutoCAD Raster Design 2009 on a 64-bit operating system they would install the deployment named LDC2009-64 for AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009, then install the deployment named ARD2009for32bitACADon64bitOS for AutoCAD Raster Design 2009.
