issue:
applied update 3, afterward opening a drawing caused the error:
Unhandled e0434f4dh exception at 76beb727h, and crashed the software.

resolution:
Click for Instructions Backing Up and Restoring My Software Settings
before doing this you may want to export your AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 profile(s) (options dialogue box)
backup the following directory first if you are using:
XP
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2010
Vista / Win 7
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2010

1 Log on to the workstation as the user.
2 On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
3 In the Run dialog box, enter regedit.
a Back up your registry , file >> export
4 In the Registry Editor, locate the following subkey and delete it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.0\ACAD-8000:409
5 Exit the Registry Editor.

now, double click on the desktop icon and launch the software, this will reset all the registry based options in the options dialogue box.
